RTX 3060 will not be useful for cryptocurrency miners. NVIDIA announces CMP boards dedicated to these customers

To try to solve the crisis of video cards on the market, NVIDIA is taking several measures that could satisfy both customers who want components made for gaming, and those who use the hardware to generate cryptocurrencies. Not only will the new RTX 3060 graphics card, which is due to launch on the market next week, have limited capabilities for “mining”, but the company is also launching a series of new components, called CMP (Cryprocurrency Mining Processor), which cannot be used. for other purposes.

NVIDIA announces new hardware for mining

This is not the first time NVIDIA has made such moves. A few years ago, during the GTX 10 series, the component market was facing similar stock issues, and NVIDIA launched on the market GP106, a video card for mining, based on the graphics chip in the GeForce GTX 1060. But this time , the CMP HX series of mining boards comes in several variants.

NVIDIA has announced the 30HX, 40HX, 50 HX and 90HX models, which although not as efficient as the RTX 30 models, could be purchased by “miners” at lower prices than gaming models. The performance of these boards starts at 26 MH / s for the base model and 86MH / s for the top model. In comparison, a GeForce RTX 3080 exceeds 100 MH / s. Partners have already been announced that will produce these components: Asus, Colorful, EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit and PC Partner.

The new RTX 3060 board will not be useful to “miners”

In the case of the new GeForce RTX 3060, NVIDIA has already announced that it will not be competitive for mining. The company will limit the mining capabilities of the driver to 50% of the actual performance, when it detects that such software is running. For this reason, gamers may soon have an option to upgrade or build a new computer.

However, already released boards will not receive a similar update. That’s because there are already older drivers that already allow their use in mining.
